Person-Directed Planning
Person Directed Plan (PDP)

When someone is offered intellectual and developmental disability services and supports, the ALA uses a person-directed planning process to develop an individualized plan of services and supports empowering the person and his or her family to direct the development of a plan that meets the person's goals.

The process:
  • identifies existing supports and services necessary to achieve the person's goals;
  • identifies natural supports available to the person and negotiates needed services and supports;
  • is done with the support of a planning team that consists of people chosen by the person and family; and
  • mirrors the way in which people without disabilities make plans.
Additional information about person-directed planning can be obtained by contacting the ALA at (210) 832-5020 or from the DADS website.
