San Antonio City Council representatives will issue an official proclamation to area seniors and the Department of Human Services’ Senior Services Program recognizing May 2012 as Older Americans Month (OAM). Companion proclamations will be issued to the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) for Ombudsman Month (recognizing the ombudsman as an advocate for elderly residents of long-term care facilities) and Texas Adult Protective Services (APS) for Elder Abuse Prevention Month (recognizing local, state, and nation-wide efforts to draw greater awareness to the crisis of seniors who are victims of abuse). This year’s Older Americans Month theme, “Never Too Old To Play” encourages all older Americans to stay engaged, active and involved in their own lives and in their communities.
